Community Matters: Supporting Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA

At Nelson 151 Craft Beverage Trail, we believe that being a great destination means more than just offering exceptional craft beverages and stunning mountain views. It means showing up for the community that makes this place home—and that includes our four-legged neighbors too.

We’re proud to share that we’ve recently made a donation to Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA, an organization doing vital work right here in Nelson County. If you’ve ever visited our trail, you know that this community has a special warmth to it. Organizations like Almost Home are a big part of why.

Why Almost Home Matters

Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA operates the Almost Home Pet Adoption Facility, providing shelter, care, and second chances to homeless cats and dogs throughout our community. Their work touches every corner of Nelson County—from veterinary care and spay/neuter services to community education and, most importantly, connecting animals with loving forever homes.

The numbers speak for themselves: in 2025 alone, Almost Home placed 62 dogs and 179 cats into families who will love them. Behind each of those numbers is a story of compassion, dedication, and the kind of community spirit that makes Nelson County special.

“The Nelson County SPCA operates the Almost Home Pet Adoption Facility,” shares Denise Merrick, President of the Nelson SPCA. “Through donations from individuals, companies and organizations like Nelson 151 we are able to house and care for homeless cats and dogs in Nelson. Funds support veterinary care, food, spay and neuter, community services, and staff to keep everything going. Without the support of our donors we would not be able to continue our mission. We look forward to working with the Nelson 151 group in the coming year.”

Stewardship is Part of Who We Are

When we talk about our core values, community stewardship isn’t just something we say—it’s something we do. Our 15 partner businesses along Route 151 are rooted in this community. We live here, we work here, and we care deeply about the well-being of everyone who calls Nelson County home.

“Almost Home, Nelson County SPCA plays a critical role in the health and well-being of our community,” said Dianna Rankin, President of Nelson 151 Craft Beverage Trail. “We are grateful for the work they do every day, and we are proud to support their efforts to provide compassionate care and second chances for animals in need.”

Supporting Almost Home aligns perfectly with who we are and what we value. Just as we provide guidance to visitors exploring our trail, Almost Home provides care and direction to animals seeking their next chapter. Just as we create welcoming spaces, they create safe havens. And just as we believe in quality and authenticity, they demonstrate those values in their daily commitment to animal welfare.
